National Road Safety and Prevention Campaign “FII TREAZ LA VOLAN!”

For carelessness at the wheel, you can pay with your life. Or others. Be awake behind the wheel!

Between July 10 and September 20, 2018, for the third consecutive year, the national road safety and prevention campaign FII TREAZ LA VOLAN!

Is underway, which aims to increase road safety in Romania and, indirectly, reduce the number of accidents.

According to several studies, when a driver talks on his mobile phone, he reacts harder in case of danger, becomes less aware of what is happening around and looks less in the mirrors. Another statistic indicates that it only takes 3 seconds of inattention for an accident to occur.

 

However, the recent high-profile accidents put us in front of a growing danger in terms of road safety for Romanian drivers, and not only: their own inattention, which can be fatal. A trivial message sent while driving, checking email or notifications on Facebook, a heated conversation with another passenger or an activity such as eating behind the wheel – all have to wait until you stop safely.

Whether we are talking about visual, cognitive, or physical distractions, it is evident that you must stay as vigilant as possible and not let anything endanger you or other road users.

In this context, between July 10 and September 20, 2018, for the third consecutive year, the national road safety and prevention campaign FII TREAZ LA VOLAN! This year, the campaign focuses on key messages aimed at raising the awareness of drivers, but also of other road users, about the dangers of carelessness, which can be caused by phone use and any other activities – such as eating food while driving, searching for a GPS address, etc.

The campaign is initiated by APPA – Association for Insurance Promotion and is carried out with the support of the Romanian Police, UNSAR – National Union of Insurance and Reinsurance Companies in Romania and BAAR – Office of Motor Insurers in Romania.

Free information brochures will be distributed in major cities across the country through dedicated promoters, at intersections and in malls. As in each of the previous editions, the campaign also benefits from an extensive social media campaign. Through dedicated Facebook, Instagram and YouTube accounts, videos and various forms of infographics will be promoted to support the campaign’s messages.

For two months, useful tips and information about what it really means to be #treazlavolan will be published on treazlavolan.ro and Facebook.com/treazlavolan.

Organized for the first time in the summer of 2016, the campaign “BE AWAKEN AT THE STEERING WHEEL!” aims to increase road safety in Romania and increase the level of information of all road users about the risks to which they are exposed by violating traffic rules, indiscipline or attitudes and actions that can endanger their lives.

The approach was nominated, in 2017, among European projects with a significant impact in terms of increasing the level of road safety: the campaign BE AWAKE AT THE STEERING WHEEL! was among the 100 campaigns participating in the “Excellence in Road Safety Awards 2017”, an event organized by the European Commission within the “Road Safety Charter” project.
