Here are the main benefits you will enjoy on board:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Free and Transparent Carry-on Baggage: All airlines will be required to include a standard piece of hand luggage (a backpack or a small bag) in the initial ticket price. Airlines and search engines must display the real price, including baggage, right from the very first step of the booking process. This will finally allow for fair price comparisons.<\/li>\n<li>Free Seating for Families: Airlines are no longer allowed to charge parents extra to sit next to their children <strong>(under 14 years old)<\/strong>. The same fee-free rule applies to passengers with disabilities, those with reduced mobility, and pregnant women.<\/li>\n<li>No More &#8220;Unused Ticket&#8221; Penalties (No-Show Clause): If you bought a round-trip ticket and, for some reason, missed or did not use the outbound flight, the airline is no longer allowed to automatically cancel your return flight, nor can they charge you extra to let you board on your way back.<\/li>\n<li>No Name-Correction Fees: Made a typo when typing your name on the ticket? The new law forces airlines to radically simplify everything:<\/p>\n<ul data-path-to-node=\"4\">\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,0,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4,0,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Automatic Refunds:<\/b> If your flight is cancelled and you choose a refund instead of rerouting, the process will be handled automatically.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,1,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4,1,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Clear Instructions Within 4 Days:<\/b> In the event of flight disruptions, the airline is required to send you clear compensation instructions within a maximum of 4 days after the trip is completed, without forcing you to use any specific app.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<p data-path-to-node=\"4,2,0\"><b data-path-to-node=\"4,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"0\">Strict Deadlines:<\/b> As a passenger, you have <b data-path-to-node=\"4,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"43\">9 months<\/b> to submit your compensation claim, and the airline has a fixed deadline of <b data-path-to-node=\"4,2,0\" data-index-in-node=\"127\">30 days<\/b> to either pay out the money or provide a legal justification (with evidence) as to why they are denying the payment.<\/p>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>How Much Can You Receive in Compensation?<\/h2>\n<p>The compensation amounts established back in 2004 remain unchanged, but their enforcement will become much stricter for airlines:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>\u20ac250 for flights up to 1,500 km.<\/li>\n<li>\u20ac400 for intra-EU flights over 1,500 km or other flights between 1,500 and 3,500 km.<\/li>\n<li>\u20ac600 for all other longer flights.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h5><img data-dominant-color=\"b6caf2\" data-has-transparency=\"true\" style=\"--dominant-color: #b6caf2;\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-13012 has-transparency\" src=\"https:\/\/destine-broker.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/compensation_value_cancelled_delayed_flight_2.webp\" alt=\"compensation_value_cancelled_delayed_flight_2\" width=\"828\" height=\"255\" srcset=\"https:\/\/destine-broker.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/compensation_value_cancelled_delayed_flight_2.webp 828w, https:\/\/destine-broker.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/compensation_value_cancelled_delayed_flight_2-300x92.webp 300w, https:\/\/destine-broker.ro\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/compensation_value_cancelled_delayed_flight_2-768x237.webp 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 828px) 100vw, 828px\" \/><\/h5>\n<h5>Note: The airline can reduce the compensation by 50% only if they offer you a fast alternative flight and the delay at your final destination does not exceed 4 hours.<\/h5>\n<p><strong>The &#8220;Duty of Care&#8221; (Obligation of Assistance) Remains in Place.<\/strong> Regardless of the reason for the delay, the airline must provide you with the following free of charge:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Water and refreshments (every 2 hours).<\/li>\n<li>A meal (after a 3-hour delay).<\/li>\n<li>Hotel accommodation (for up to 3 nights) if the flight is postponed to the following day.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Watch Out for Exceptions! When Do You NOT Receive Money?<\/h2>\n<p>Airlines can only refuse to pay cash compensation if they prove that the delay or cancellation was caused by extraordinary circumstances completely outside of their control. The new law introduces a clear (&#8220;open-ended&#8221;) list of these exceptions, so that airlines can no longer use false pretexts: natural disasters, war, extreme weather conditions, unruly passengers, or strikes by air traffic controllers or airport ground services.<\/p>\n<p>When Do These Changes Take Effect? It is very important to understand that these rules will not apply at airports starting tomorrow.
