The Lesson of Trust from the Archives was one of the most valuable ideas highlighted during the Destine Broker Gala 2025<\/a>. It brought to the forefront the essential role of validated information in the insurance industry. Beyond recognizing performance and facilitating networking, this year\u2019s edition offered a different perspective on how the past influences the present.<\/p>\n

The Lesson of Trust from the Archives<\/h2>\n

Cristian Anita<\/span><\/span>, Director of National Archives of Romania<\/span><\/span> and President of EURBICA<\/span><\/span> (the European Branch of the International Council on Archives), took the stage and captured the audience\u2019s attention with an authentic speech.<\/p>\n

Although archives and insurance brokerage may seem like unrelated fields, his message highlighted a common ground: trust is the foundation of both professions<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

This idea strongly resonated among insurance professionals, where the validity of information and data security are essential in the relationship with clients.<\/p>\n

Archives and Insurance: A Trust-Based Connection<\/h2>\n

During his speech, Cristian Anita<\/span><\/span> explained how historical documents underpin modern concepts of property, identity, and security\u2014core elements in the insurance industry as well.<\/p>\n

Property deeds, birth certificates, and commercial documents are fundamental pieces of evidence that support rights, transactions, and the protection of assets. Similarly, insurance operates based on these documented and validated realities.<\/p>\n

He also presented the institution\u2019s digitalization efforts, including over 10 million historical records available online on the official platform: www.descopera.arhivelenationale.ro<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Insurance History Brought into the Present<\/h2>\n

The National Archives of Romania<\/span><\/span><\/a> inaugurated the exhibition \u201cExchange Agents and Insurance Companies in Archival Documents.\u201d<\/em> The exhibition project brought together documents and photographs that bear witness to the early stages of this profession in modern Romania.<\/p>\n

According to these sources, the first regulation of a commodities and securities market dates back to 1840, with the promulgation of the Commercial Code of Wallachia, modeled after the French Commercial Code of 1807. This code specified that personnel authorized to carry out stock exchange transactions consisted of intermediaries (exchange agents) and brokers (dealers, brokers).<\/p>\n

Participants at the event had the opportunity to view documents related to some of the first insurance companies, including Agricola-Fonciera<\/em>, Na\u021bionala<\/em>, and Generala<\/em>. Photographs of their first office buildings were also displayed, along with insurance policies from the interwar period.<\/p>\n
