
In the first half of 2025, the insurance market in Romania recorded a significant positive evolution, with a total volume of gross written premiums amounting to 12.3 billion RON. This result marks an 8% increase compared to the same period of the previous year. This performance reflects both the strong dynamics of life insurance and the resilience of the automotive segment, according to the report published by the Financial Supervisory Authority (ASF).

Insurance Category Results for the First Half of 2025
Insurance companies authorized by ASF recorded a 10% increase in gross written premiums, thus strengthening their essential role in the development of the market. General insurance continued to dominate the market, accounting for 79% of total premiums, with a 6% increase compared to the previous year.
Within this segment, automobile insurance, including RCA and CASCO, was the most significant, totaling 7 billion RON. RCA saw a 10% increase, reaching 5.2 billion RON, with an average annual premium of approximately 1,300 RON, up by 2% compared to 2024. Additionally, health insurance continued to evolve positively, with results exceeding 680 million RON.
Life insurance was the most dynamic sector. These policies recorded a 21% increase, becoming one of the main growth rates of drivers in the market. The growth of this sector was particularly supported by Unit-Linked products, which increased by 41%, now accounting for one-third of life insurance subscriptions. Traditional life insurance policies also saw an almost 19% increase, further strengthening the positive trend across the entire sector.
